Concurso de Talentos en el festejo de Sto. Tomás

Cada año se celebra el día de Santo Tomás, patrón de Secundaria. Es un día genial porque los estudiantes y los profesores tenemos la oportunidad de hablar, divertirnos, etc. en distintas actividades fuera del aula. :) Este año, además, ha sido único porque la Asociación de Estudiantes ha tenido una gran idea: organizar un concurso de talentos. Muchos estudiantes dieron lo mejor de sí mismos y pudimos ver muchos tipos de actuaciones: artes marciales, imitaciones humorísticas, teatro y mucha música. Fue estupendo ver el talento que tienen nuestros alumnos. 
Every year we celebrate "St. Thomas Day", the day of Secondary School. It's a great day because students and teachers have the opportunity of talking, having fun, etc. in different activities out of the classroom. :) But this year has been unique because the Students' association had a great idea: to organize a talents's contest. Many students gave their best and we could see many shows: martial arts, humor, theatre and much music. It was incredible to see the talent of all these students.

¡¡Feliz año nuevo 2013!! Últimamente, he estado leyendo en las redes sociales información sobre una orquesta en Paraguay, que reutiliza diferentes materiales encontrados en el vertedero para crear instrumentos musicales. Lo más impresionante es que ¡suenan muy bien!
Happy new year 2013!! Lately, I've been reading on the social network about an orchestra in Paraguay, which reuse different materials found on the dump to create musical instruments. The most impressive thing about this story is that instruments really sound great!!.

Me gustaría que viérais este documental para hablar sobre él en la clase. Creo que damos por sentado demasiadas cosas. Somos muy afortunados de tener la oportunidad de aprender música así como a bailar, cantar, tocar la flauta, etc. Quizá el año que viene, ya no la tendremos más, así que tenemos que disfrutarla tanto como podamos, ¿no creéis?

I'd like you to see this documentary in order to speak about it in the classroom. I think we take for granted too many things. We are very lucky to have the opportunity to learn music and dancing, singing, playing the recorder, etc. Maybe next year, we won't have it any more, so we have to enjoy it as long as we have it, don't you think?

"El avaro" de Moliére, según Verónica. La creatividad compositiva.

Como todos posiblemente sabéis, la Música se relaciona con muchas otras disciplinas, como la Literatura. Verónica, una de mis alumnas de 2º de Bachillerato, que era miembro del "Glee Club", tuvo que hacer un trabajo sobre "El avaro" de Moliére, y decidió escribir una canción.

As all of you may know, Music is related to many other disciplines like Literature. Verónica, one of my students of 2nd of Bachillerato, who was a member of the "Glee Club", had to do an essay about "The Miser", by Moliére and she decided to write a song. 

Le propuse que la cantara para todos en la clase puesto que, en la optativa de Música, hay gente de todas las ramas del Bachillerato y, por tanto, algunos no la habían escuchado, y accedió. Voy a enseñaros su increíble talento para componer e interpretar.

I proposed her to sing it for everyone in the class, considering that the elective subject of "Music", mixes people from different groups, and she agreed. I'm going to show you her incredible composing and performing talent.

Trabajo final del Taller de Creatividad Musical

En el Taller de Creatividad Musical, hemos creado música durante todo el curso. Hemos cantado, hemos tocado y hemos hecho adaptaciones de letras, del inglés al castellano. Todo esto, intentando ser más creativos y acercarnos más a la música.

In the "Musical Creativity Workshop", we have been creating music during the whole course. We have sung, we have played and we have made adaptations of English lyrics to Spanish. All of this, trying to be more creative and getting closer to music.

Como proyecto final, Alejandro y su amigo Vicente han compuesto esta canción llamada "Frío amanecer". Se hacen llamar Spring's Disasters (Desastres de la primavera) y esta canción es del tipo balada. La música y las letras son originales de ellos y estoy muy impresionada con el trabajo que han hecho. Aquí los tenéis:

As a final project, Alejandro and his friend Vicente have composed this song called "Frío amanecer". They called themselves Spring's Disasters and this is kind of a Ballad. The music and the lyrics are totally theirs, so I'm really impressed by the work they've done. Here you have them:

Juego de tronos (Game of Thrones) y su música

Probablemente conocéis la serie de televisión "Juego de Tronos" y la veis. Quizás lo que no sabéis es que ésta se basa en los libros de George R.R. Martin. Esta serie de novelas de fantasía se llama "Canción de Hielo y Fuego" y "Juego de Tronos" es el nombre del primer libro.
Probably you already know the new tv show called "Game of thrones" and you are watching it. Maybe you don't know that this show is based on the books written by George R.R. Martin. This series of high fantasy novels is called A song of Ice and Fire and "Game of thrones" is the name of the first book.

Llegados a este punto os podéis preguntar, ¿y por qué estamos hablando de series televisivas?. Porque tan famosa como los actores o el programa en sí mismo, la música se convierte en otro personaje. Ayuda a promocionarla y es como el "jingle" de un anuncio: basta escucharla y la historia te viene a la mente.
At this point you may wonder, why are we talking about tv shows?. Because as famous as the actors or the show itself, the music becomes another main character in them. It helps promote the show and it's like a jingle in a commercial: you listen to it and think of the whole story.

La música de cabecera de cada episodio ha sido compuesta por Ramin Djawadi, al que también se le conoce por haber creado la música de series como Person of interest, Flashforward, películas como "Iron Man" o melodías de videojuegos.

The music of the intro opening theme of each episode has been composed by Ramin Djawadi, who's also known because he has composed the music of Person of interest, Flahsforward, movies like "Iron Man" or videogames tunes.

Músicos de todo el mundo están haciendo versiones de esta música. Os voy a mostrar dos de ellas. La primera está realizada con una guitarra eléctrica, batería y bajo. Usando pistas múltiples, consigue interpretar la melodía al completo.
Some musicians all over the world are doing covers of this music. I'm going to show you two. The first one is played with an electric guitar, drums and electric bass. Using multiple tracks he performs the whole melody. :)

Impresionante, ¿verdad?. ¿Creéis que algo así se podría hacer con un instrumento de orquesta? ¿Sí? ¿No?. Veamos el siguiente vídeo: un violín lo intenta y...

VOKI para todos

Algunos de vosotros ya conocéis VOKI porque os lo he presentado en clase. Para otros, es algo totalmente nuevo. Os dejo que Kenzo os dé un mensaje y, luego, os explico en qué consiste este trabajo.

Mª Jesús Camino ha trabajado con Voki y es la que me enseñó esta herramienta. Os pongo unas indicaciones que a mí me sirvieron mucho.

VOKI es una herramienta 2.0 para crear avatares interactivos que después se pueden incrustar en un blog o web. La particularidad que tiene es que los avatares creados con Voki "hablan" y/o "cantan". 

La herramienta permite escribir texto y una voz lo reproduce pero también permite realizar grabaciones online (de 1 minuto) o subir un archivo previamente grabado. Esto da grandes posibilidades ya que podéis crear vuestros avatares

Os propongo crear un avatar y, si os atrevéis, grabaros cantando un fragmento de una canción. Para ello seguid estas instrucciones:

• Entrad en http://www.voki.com y registraos como usuarios.
• Activar la pestaña "Create" en la parte superior derecha de la web.
• Siguiendo los iconos vais configurando el aspecto físico, la subida del archivo de audio de vuestra presentación, el fondo, los detalles del rostro, etc. A la derecha del escritorio hay instrucciones (están en inglés).
• En el ejemplo que yo os he puesto el saludo está hecho con el texto escrito (icono tecla del ordenador en la imagen) y eligiendo una voz pero para subir un audio ya grabado hacemos click en el icono archivo que es la carpeta que aparece a la derecha de la sección "Give it a voice" .

• Una vez creado dais a "Publish", debajo del avatar volvéis a hacer click en publish para copiar la url.

De todos es conocido que hay gente llena de creatividad por el mundo. También sabéis que me gusta que este blog sea una ventana a ese mundo que hay fuera. Por eso, esta vez, os traigo el vídeo de un chico que hace maravillas con una baraja de cartas.

Después de ver el vídeo, no os extrañará que le llamen "el rey de los teléfonos". Además, si os dáis cuenta, la coreografía y la música es básica en su trabajo.

Glee Club "Cañada de las Eras": "River Deep, Mountain High"

Como sabéis, el año pasado, con muchísima ilusión, comenzamos la andadura del "Glee Club".
As you know, last year we started our Glee Club with great excitement.

Este año, muchos alumnos se tuvieron que ir porque habían acabado sus estudios (como Consuelo y Miguel Ángel, a los que extrañamos cada día), pero seguimos trabajando haciendo canciones. Para los que no sepan lo que es, en el Glee Club hacemos versiones propias (con arreglos originales) de canciones de música urbana. Además, utilizamos instrumentos para acompañarnos o karaokes que sacamos de Internet cuando es demasiado complicado.
This year, many students had to leave as they had finished their studies in Highschool (like Consuelo and Miguel Ángel. We miss them everyday), but we kept working singing songs. For those who don't know what a Glee Club is, we make covers of urban music songs. Besides, we use instruments or karaokes in our shows.

Al principio, en el curso 2010/11 éramos unos 11 alumnos. En el 2011/12, tras un proceso de selección con casting incluído, llegamos hasta 15 pero, poco a poco, muchos alumnos lo fueron dejando, mayormente porque ensayábamos tres recreos y les suponía un sacrificio que no les apetecía asumir.
In the beginning, course 2011/12, there were 11 students. In 2011/12, after auditioning, we reached 15 students but, little by little, many students left, mostly because we rehearsed three rest periods and they had to do a sacrifice they didn't feel like doing.

Pensé en dejarlo en diciembre del año pasado porque sólo quedaban 4 alumnos realmente comprometidos pero, para mi sorpresa, insistieron en seguir y estaban tan ilusionados que no pude decir que no. Además, pensamos que yo podría cantar también. ¿Por qué no?. ¡Hay cuartetos muy famosos!
I thought about quitting in December 2011 because only 4 students out of 15 were really committed but, surprisingly, they insisted in going on and they were excited about the project so I just couldn't say no. Apart from that, we thought I could sing along with them. Why not?. There are many famous quartets!

To all teachers who are reading this, I encourage you to make this activity. It takes a lot of time and work, but gets you out of your comfort zone and assuming new challenges as an artist and as a teacher. Wouldn't you like to do a Glee Club Festival all together?. Adaptación de la letra "Rolling in the deep" al español realizada por Nerea, Franco y Espe

Hoy escribo este podcast llena de orgullo porque mis alumnos Nerea, Franco y Espe, han realizado un trabajo estupendo. Y, además, ha coincidido con el día en el que Adele ha arrasado en los Grammy.

Today I'm writting this podcast full of pride because my students Nerea, Franco and Espe, have made a wonderful work. And, besides, today is the day Adele has become Grammy Awards big winner.

En el marco asambleario del 15M en las aulas, propuse que cada alumno podía hacer, en solitario o en grupo, un trabajo de creatividad musical y, evidentemente, ellos decidirían cómo hacerlo. Una de mis propuestas fue la de que adaptaran letras de canciones que les gustaran del inglés al castellano pero, además, tenían que cantarlas y grabarse. Nerea, Franco y Espe aceptaron el reto. 


In the environment of the 15M in the classroom, I gave students the option of doing some creative tasks, alone or in a group, and they'd have to decide what to do. One of my suggestions was the adaptation of lyrics from English to Spanish and, apart from that, they should perform it and record it. Nerea, Franco and Espe accepted the challenged.

El resultado es esta maravilla que veis abajo, creo que grabada con un móvil (si me equivoco, me lo decís en comentarios) y muy bien interpretada.

The result is this wonderful video which was recorded with a mobile (if I'm wrong, tell me in the comments), and very well performed.

Espero que os guste y que digáis cosas positivas hacia los creadores e intérpretes. Ahora no nos podrán reclamar derechos de autor, porque la letra es de ellos, que generosamente la comparten en Creative Commons, para que los demás la podáis cantar.

El 15 M en las aulas

Este trimestre estamos siguiendo las pautas de Luis Ibáñez, un visionario de la educación, y de la charla que éste impartió en el congreso "Con Euterpe", acerca de la idea de llevar el 15M a las aulas, es decir, que los contenidos y las capacidades básicas a adquirir, se dialoguen en una asamblea formada por la profesora y los alumnos.

Por este motivo, a lo largo de las dos primeras semanas de clase, pusimos sobre el tapete lo que había que trabajar y, entre todos, decidimos cómo. 

Así, hemos decidido conocer los contenidos a través de trabajos en el formato "Wix", para integrar las nuevas tecnologías en el aula y, además, desarrollar el lado creativo que todos llevamos dentro de forma que cada uno se sienta más a gusto. Unos han preferido hacer playbacks, otros cantar, otros realizar coreografías, fabricar instrumentos o adaptar letras de canciones famosas en inglés.

En próximas entradas, iré exponiendo lo que cada curso ha decidido hacer. Parece una tontería, pero al principio cuesta tomar las decisiones. Da la sensación de que los alumnos están acostumbrados a acatar órdenes y no a crear ellos sus espacios de conocimiento y, con esta iniciativa, están adquiriendo más autonomía. 

Por último, recordar que la evaluación también será un trabajo asambleario y que, por lo tanto, evaluaremos entre todos.

Aprovecho para animar a todos los alumnos a participar en los proyectos colaborativos Kantaconmigo y Flautateka. Serán valorados como merecen. :)

This three-month period of lessons, we've been inspired by the lecture that Luis Ibañez, a visionary on education, gave on the congress "Con Euterpe", about taking the 15M to the classroom. This means that the contents and the main knowledge to be acquired is discussed in an assembly form by the teacher and the students.

For this matter, the first two weeks, we talked about what we had to work about and we all decided how to do it.

After this period of negotiations, we decided to get to the contents through "Wix" projects, so we could integrate new technologies in the classroom and, besides, developing our creative side by doing what fits us better. Some students decided to do playbacks, other singing, performing choreografies, making musical instruments or adapting lyrics from famous songs in English.

In future podcasts, I'll tell you about what each group decided. Maybe it's obvious, but it's hard to make decisions in the beginning. It seems students are used to receive orders and not to create their knowledge spaces. With this initiative, they're improving their autonomy. 

For last, remembering that the evaluation process will be made by everyone in the classroom. 

Creatividad de 5 artistas con una guitarra. Compartir música, crear música.

Hay quien cree que la creatividad es algo así como un don extraordinario que sólo poseen unos pocos elegidos.

Mi opinión, y la de muchos expertos, es que todos nacemos con un torrente enorme y casi infinito de creatividad, y que el único problema es que no lo desarrollamos por distintas circunstancias.

Ni que decir tiene que, en el aula, encuentro muchas veces alumnos que tienen atada su creatividad y no la dejan salir por vergüenza y, a lo largo del curso, empiezan a darle alas hasta que, al final, nos maravillan y se maravillan viendo lo que son capaces de hacer.

Como ahora, gracias a Internet, tenemos muchísimas cosas alrededor que observar, os propongo que veáis este vídeo en el que 5 personas (sí, ¡cinco!) tocan una sola guitarra dando lugar a esta maravillosa pieza. Espero que os guste. 

Quiero señalar también que en música, trabajar en equipo siempre es enriquecedor. Queda muy claro con el vídeo, ¿verdad? :P

Many people think creativity is kind of a gift that only a few have. My opinion, shared by many experts, is that we all are born with a lot of creativity and the only problem is that we don't work on it.

In my school room I see my students hesitate about their capacity to create something and how, along the way, they get more confident and they do marvellous things. It's amazing sharing all the way with them!!. 

Thanks to the internet, we can see many examples of what people is able to do. For example, the video above, shows 5 people playing a guitar. And it sounds so great! I hope you like it.

And remember: In music, sharing is winning. Always.
