Kwaheri, baile de Kenya (con variaciones)

Ya sabéis cuánto me gusta bailar. Esta vez, hemos danzado "Kwaheri" (Kenia), pero he añadido algunas variaciones para hacer que sea más sencillo bailar en el aula (que no es muy grande). Dividí a mis estudiantes en dos grupos: primero, bailaba el de la izquierda; luego, el de la derecha. Después, bailaban todos juntos y, finalmente, daban palmadas con el compañero de enfrente. 

You know how much I love dancing. This time, we danced "Kwaher", from Kenya, but I added some variations to make it easier to dance in the classroom (which is not very big). I divided my students in two groups: first, the left group danced; then, the right side. After that, they all dance together and, finally, the clap hands with their colleagues.

"Circassian Circle" bailada por los alumnos de 3º de Diversidad

Antes de las vacaciones, mis alumnos y yo bailamos esta canción irlandesa. Es una danza muy divertida y, aunque puede parecer un poco difícil al principio, os aseguro que no lo es. :) Si queréis echar un vistazo, aquí lo tenéis: 
Before the Christmas Holidays, I danced this Irish song with my students. It's a very funny dance and, though it can seem a little difficult at the beginning, it is not! :) If you want to take a look, here you have them:

Branle de las ratas

Una forma divertida de aprender Historia de la Música es bailando. También es una forma de profundizar en la cultura de un país. Hoy vamos a hablar del "Branle de las ratas". Esta es una danza típica de Morvan, un lugar rodeado de montañas en la zona de Borgoña (Francia). Esta región tiene una rica tradición musical y unos instrumentos muy interesantes.

An enjoyable way to learn Music History is by dancing. And it's a way to learn more about the culture of a country, too. Today we're going to talk about the "Rats' branle". This is a typical dance from Morvan, a place surrounded by mountains in the province of Bourgogne (France). This region has a very rich music tradition and very interesting instruments.

Una de las danzas más conocidas de Morvan es el "Branle de las Ratas". Se dice que se bailaba golpeando en el suelo para espantar las ratas, especialmente en los hogares de los recién casados. Se baila en dos líneas en la que los hombres se sitúan frente a las mujeres. El primer paso es el de la polka. Después, hay un cruce en diagonal. Los hombres tenían que quitarse el sombrero cada vez que se cruzaban con una mujer en este segundo paso. 

One of the most well-known dances of Morvan is the so called "Rats' Branle". It's told that it was danced to make rats go away, especially in "just-married" homes. It's danced in two lines, where women and men are one in front of the other. The first step is the polka's step. After that, there is a crossing in diagonal line. Men had to remove their hats, while they were performing this second step, everytime they crossed with a woman. 

Mis alumnos de 2º de Bachillerato bailaron este branle el otro día y creo que se divirtieron mucho. Tengo que agradecer a Begoña Rodríguez por la existencia de su blog Danzas del mundo, que es una inspiración para todos y que permite a los profesores de música, aprender nuevas danzas cada año. My students of 2nd of Bachillerato were dancing this branle the other day and I think they had a good time. I have to thank Begoña Rodríguez for her blog Dances of the world , which is an inspiration for all and allows music's teachers learning new dances every year. Thank you.

Flashmob en el Cañada

Durante los últimos dos meses, los alumnos de Bachillerato han estado trabajando en la preparación de este Flashmob. Supongo que lo sabéis pero, en caso de que no, ensayar un evento como éste no va, tan solo, de preparar la coreografía. Tienes que pensar en el orden: quién empieza, quién sigue, la distribución del espacio... Es algo complicado, en cierto modo.

For the last two months we've been working on this Flashmob in 1st of Bachillerato. I suppose you know, but in case you don't, rehearsing a flashmob is not just about the coreography. You have to think about the order: who starts it, who follows, the space distribution... It's kind of complicated in a certain way...

De todos modos, creo que a todo el mundo le gustó, porque los alumnos que estaban mirando, estaban emocionados con todo lo que estaba ocurriendo. :) Todos los días me han estado diciendo que sería una gran idea tener música durante el Recreo. ¡¡Y estoy totalmente de acuerdo!! :)

Anyway, I think everyone liked it because the rest of the students were really excited about the whole thing. :) I've been told every day, that it would be a great idea to have music everyday during break time. I totally agree. :)

"Godesses": los alumnos de Bachillerato vuelven a bailar a Playford

Los alumnos de 1º de Bachillerato vuelven a bailar a Playford. Esta vez se trata de "Godesses", que se interpreta en grupos de 8 personas (4 parejas). No voy a explicar quién es Playford porque ya hay una entrada previa sobre él (si os interesa, buscadla en el lateral derecho, en el apartado de Bailes).

The students of 1st of Bachillerato dance Playford again. This time is  "Godesses", which has to be performed in groups of 8 people (4 couples). I'm not talking again about Playford because there is a previous podcast about it.

Danza: Popurrí de melodías de Playford (Playford's Medley)

Cuando se habla de las danzas del Renacimiento, hay un nombre que aparece inevitablemente: John Playford (1623–1686/7). El motivo de ello es que este editor, especializado en libros de música y danza, publicó el famoso título "The English Dancing Master" en 1651.

Como bien apunta wikipedia, se trata de un manual de danza que incluye la música y las instrucciones para las Danzas inglesas que se venían bailando desde el siglo XV-XVI en Inglaterra. 

En este vídeo podemos ver a los alumnos de 1º de Bachillerato realizando un baile resultado de mezclar varias melodías de este libro (de ahí el nombre de Popurrí). También se nota que estábamos en medio de la ola de frío por la ropa que llevamos (lo cual impidió que usáramos ropas más acordes con la época).

Espero que os guste y os animéis a hacerlo en vuestras clases. Seguiremos realizando danzas de Playford y mostrándooslas.

When refering to Renaissance Dances, there is an important name not to be forgotten: John Playford (1623–1686/7). The reason is that this publisher, specialized in music and dance books, published the famous book "The English Dancing Master" in 1651.

As you can read in wikipedia, is a dancing manual containing the music and instructions for English dances who had been performed since the XVth-XVIth centuries in England.

In this video you can see the students of 1st of Bachillerato dancing a dance result of mixing several melodies of this book (that's why is a medley (popurri)). You can tell we were in the middle of the cold weather coming from North Europe by the clothes we're wearing. 

I hope you like it and you do it yourself in your classroom. We'll keep on performing Playford dances and showing them to you.

Danza Euterpe con 1º de Bachillerato

Tras hacer mis primeros pinitos como editora de vídeos (gracias, chicos, que me animáis a embarcarme en estas cosas y, sobre todo, a mi padre que es un auténtico McGyver de la vida), aquí os muestro las dos versiones de la Danza Euterpe que hicimos el viernes pasado.

La primera, nos lo enseñó Juan (Tatarachín) en el Congreso conEuterpe. ¡Gracias Juan!. Nos gustó tanto que me atreví a hacer una versión para secundaria y este vídeo muestra el resultado.

Espero que os guste y felicito a todos los alumnos, tanto a los que bailaron como a los que, con sus flautas, nos dieron la música para danzar.
